Find Russell County Civil Dockets

Start a Russell County civil docket search with the statewide public case index. It tracks each civil case through its filings, motions, settings, orders, and judgment. From there, the district court clerk or a courthouse terminal can fill in whatever the web record leaves out. Remember that a docket shows events, not the full case file. Kansas access rules may limit what you can view in sensitive cases. Knowing which office holds the record helps you get a usable copy fast.

The portal's search type changes what the search box expects. Party Name is for an individual. Business Name searches an entity. Party As Business Name covers a business appearing as a party. Case Number works best when punctuation and year are entered as the court shows them. Citation Number is generally not the right starting point for a district civil action.

Inside a Russell County Civil Docket

A Russell County civil register can identify the case, parties and roles, attorneys, assigned judge, filing date, status, hearings, and event history. Entries may record a petition, service return, answer, counterclaim, motion, response, order, judgment, settlement, dismissal, appeal, or consolidation. Financial fields can appear when public. A document link depends on Rule 22, privacy, and the court's eCourt conversion.

Russell Events Are Not Pleadings

An event line proves that the clerk recorded an action. It does not always expose the full text of the pleading, exhibit, or order. That distinction prevents a common error. A docket summary can show that a motion was filed while withholding the document image, or it can list judgment without serving as a certified judgment.

Use the courthouse terminal when a public PDF is missing. Kansas guidance states that public converted documents from older case-management systems may be available there even when public web search omits them. If the terminal does not resolve the need, give the clerk the case number, filing date, document title, and desired format. State whether a plain or certified copy is required.

For a formal written request, the Kansas Judicial Branch court-record request form captures the requester, court, case, documents, and delivery choice. It is more precise than asking for an entire file.

Civil Case Types on the Docket

Russell County District Court civil work spans regular actions, limited actions, and domestic-relations categories. The annual statistical labels do not always match the public portal filter labels. They also are not separate municipal courts. Read the case type shown on the actual docket before drawing a conclusion about the claim.

  • Contract disputes in regular or limited actions
  • Tort claims involving alleged civil harm
  • Real-property actions
  • Other regular civil actions
  • Domestic-relations and related public matters, subject to restrictions

Russell Civil Filings by Type

The official FY 2024 report, for the year ending June 30, 2024, recorded 411 Russell County civil filings. It separated 38 regular actions, 277 limited actions, and 96 domestic-relations filings. Within regular actions, the report listed 14 contract, 13 real-property, three tort, and eight other matters. Limited actions included 276 contract and one other filing.

The Kansas Judicial Branch civil-filings table is the source for that caseload snapshot. The official Kansas Civil Filings service is the source for the assigned interface image below. Neither resource is the live Russell docket.

Russell Civil Settings and Hearings

A civil docket may list conferences, motion hearings, trials, and later review settings. Record the date, time, location, assigned judge, and setting type. A notice of setting or scheduling order can carry details that a short event line lacks. A continuance moves the date; a reset may replace an earlier setting. Neither term means the case was dismissed.

Use the event list as a starting point, then check the filed notice and confirm close to the hearing. The Russell District Court clerk is the local confirmation channel when the online line is unclear. The broader Russell County court dates process covers reminders and missed settings. A portal screen should not replace formal notice from the court.

Kansas Civil Filings Snapshot

Kansas Civil Filings launched in 2025 as a separate access product for newly submitted civil documents before clerk acceptance. The Judicial Branch annual report says unsealed submissions remain available for three days unless rejected under Rule 23(c). That makes the service useful for a narrow, time-sensitive purpose, but it is not a complete Russell County civil docket.

CaseSearch remains the public case-information route after acceptance. eFlex serves authorized filers and worklists. The courthouse terminal can expose additional public converted documents. These systems answer different questions. A new submission, an accepted docket event, a public PDF, and a certified copy are four distinct records.

Russell Civil Docket Custodian

The Russell County District Court Clerk maintains district civil events, filings, settings, judgments, and certified court copies. The official District Court page lists the courthouse contact block. The Russell County Clerk is the county government's administrative clerk and keeps county minutes, election records, and budget material. That office does not keep a civil lawsuit merely because both offices carry the county name.

For a judgment or filed order, direct the request to the District Court Clerk. Include the case number, document name, approximate filing date, and copy type. Mail and counter requests are documented routes. Phone staff can identify the right process. The published fax number is 785-483-2448, but confirm with the clerk before treating fax as a request route.

Russell Civil Docket Access Rules

Public access does not make every civil case or field visible online. Kansas Supreme Court Rule 22 governs portal and terminal access, privacy, and excluded records. Adoption, protection-order, child-welfare, care-and-treatment, and other sensitive categories can be limited. A sealing order can restrict a case or document. Personal identifiers must be protected.

Key rules:

Kansas Supreme Court Rule 22 controls public electronic court-record access.

K.S.A. 45-218 addresses inspection, responses, and denials under the Kansas Open Records Act.

K.S.A. 45-219 permits reasonable copy fees and advance payment.

The district court clerk keeps Russell civil case records. The Russell County Clerk handles county administrative material and is not the civil docket keeper. A missing result may mean the wrong office, an over-narrow filter, a restricted case, or a document available only through the terminal or clerk. Verify the route before relying on absence.
